Instructions for Authors

General Guidelines

J Open: Special and Inclusive Education welcomes high-quality research in the fields of special education, inclusive education, pedagogy, and related interdisciplinary areas.

All submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Manuscripts should be prepared according to the journal’s guidelines and submitted via the online submission system.

Types of Manuscripts Accepted

  • Original Research Articles – Empirical or theoretical studies
  • Review Articles – Comprehensive literature reviews
  • Short Communications – Brief reports of innovative findings
  • Case Studies – Applied and practice-based research
  • Editorials & Commentaries – Scholarly perspectives

Manuscript Preparation

Formatting Requirements

All manuscripts must be prepared strictly in accordance with the journal’s official template (Microsoft Word or LaTeX), available on the journal website.

Authors are required to use the template to ensure consistency in formatting, structure, and style of submitted manuscripts.

Manuscripts that do not follow the journal template will be returned to the authors for revision before entering the peer-review process.

Template Files

Authors should download and use one of the following templates:

General Formatting

The formatting (font, spacing, headings, references, tables, and figures) is predefined in the template and must not be altered by authors.

Manuscript Length

  • Research Articles: 4,000–8,000 words
  • Review Articles: 6,000–10,000 words
  • Short Communications: 1,500–3,000 words

Manuscript Structure

The manuscript must follow the structure provided in the template:

  • Title Page (≤15 words, authors, affiliations, ORCID)
  • Abstract (150–250 words)
  • Keywords (5–7)
  • Introduction
  • Methodology
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • References (APA style recommended; authors must ensure consistency)

Figures, Tables, and Supplementary Materials

  • Figures: Minimum 300 dpi
  • Tables: Must be editable (not images)
  • Supplementary Materials: Additional files are allowed

Ethical Guidelines

The journal follows internationally recognized publishing ethics:

  • Plagiarism screening (Turnitin / iThenticate)
  • Conflict of interest disclosure is required
  • Data fabrication or falsification is strictly prohibited

Use of Generative AI

AI tools may be used only for language improvement. Their use must be transparently declared.

Example:
During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [tool name] to improve language quality. The authors take full responsibility for the content.

Peer Review Process

  • Initial editorial screening
  • Double-blind peer review (minimum 2 reviewers)
  • Editorial decision: accept / revise / reject
  • Review time: 4–8 weeks

All reviews are conducted confidentially and independently.

J Open is a fully open-access journal.

Editorial Note
